On a lathe.

My dad and I took a class a few months ago together. He had already taken the class and made several things but I really wanted to do it too so it was great to have him there with me! It was a really fun day and great quality time with dear ‘ole dad :)

Here is the bowl I made in that class. I am super proud of my first piece!

It is FAR from perfect. There’s lots of scoring marks and its not as smooth as it should be but, hey, I think it turned out pretty nice. It also warped since I turned the wood while it was still green, I had to let it dry and in that process it warped. This is completely normal for green wood; the only way to avoid warping is to turn the wood when its already dry but then it is harder to turn. Cracking is also normal but luckily mine didn’t crack. Spalting (a fancy word for mold) is also normal. Mine has a little bit of it but my dads had so much that it was almost a green color. It really can be beautiful!

I had a blast and hope to do a lot more on the lathe. Thankfully my dad has the machine and set up at his house for me to take advantage of :).

We went to church and Sunday school, ran to the hardware store to get stuff for his party next weekend, the grocery store to get cake stuff, took naps…

The girls were dying to make him a Mickey Mouse cake so i just got a box cake and let them ice and decorate it. It was lovely lol. Very sweet and special of them though!!

We ordered pizza for dinner and sang Happy Birthday.. twice

Take 1:
<div id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:878d4012-5e9f-4567-b8bd-b055623a5f6e" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent" style="width: 425px; I originally got it out of a Food Network cook book and I still use it as a guide but I have made some changes to it. I’m bad about not following a recipe exactly lol. I love that book, though, I’ve gotten several great recipes out of it!
I posted a picture of the soup on Facebook for a friend who also loves it and I got lots of people asking for the recipe, so here it is:

2 Tblsp Vegetable Oil

1/2 a medium onion, minced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 chipotle chile en adobo sauce, minced

1 Tblsp chili powder

2 tsp salt

6 cups chicken broth

1 cup frozen corn kernels

1 can diced tomatoes

1 whole rotisserie chicken, deboned

cilantro, shredded cheddar cheese, avocado, tortillas, tortilla chips for garnish

Stir-fry together the oil, onion, garlic, chile pepper, chili powder, and salt until onions are soft.

Add the chicken broth, corn and chicken.

let it come to a boil and it is ready to serve!

I think my favorite thing about this recipe is how quick it is and how versatile it is. I LOVE cilantro and cant have too much (as you can see in my picture, I load my bowl up with it).

Tip: the chipotle pepper is where the heat comes from and is the key ingredient to this recipe! I like spicy food so I like to add a little extra splash of the sauce with the pepper. if you are sensitive to heat, just add a little sauce or only do half a pepper. This is the kind I like to buy:

It is tedious, monotonous, stinky, dirty, and seriously tests your patience!! Not to mention my feet, quads, and knees are KILLING ME! I have to say I really enjoy it though! There’s something rewarding and therapeutic about it. I love peeling way the layers and finding what’s under it and bringing it back to it’s original beauty.
With the exception of Avery's field trip Friday morning, we actually did not have anything planned this weekend, so I took full advantage and got busy on the cabinet.
Since this really isn't a tutorial, I will not give step by steps but will show pictures I took along the way.
I got the drawer all sanded down so the next step was to clean out the carving. It was so full of gunk. Who knows what all was in there. It was nasty! I used the corner of my scraper some, a flat head screw driver, and even got out my dental tools (what? you don't have dental tools laying around?? lol)

Next was the daunting task of stripping the big piece. This is where patience is key! I used Citristrip since it was the safest one I could find. It says it has no smell but it does! A mask (and obviously gloves) was a must! I actually didn't take any pictures during the stripping phase since it was so messy I didn't want to get my camera out. It took 2 full days of 6-8 hours of work but I got it stripped down.

As you can see I didn’t mess with stripping the inside. It was not chipping as bad and I will have to paint it anyways so I will just sand a little and it will be fine.

The turned legs were tough! I didn’t get it perfect but I think what’s left can be sanded off. Using those really rough sponges you get in the kitchen section worked the best since the scraper doesn’t get into the grooves as easily.

The carving on the front bottom was also tough. I used a tooth brush to help get into those curves. The trick was to wait as until the stripper was pretty dry before removing it. If it is too wet, it just gets goopy and smears more than falls off.

Here's another close up of the detail carving on the front. I had to scrape out the goop on all of these carvings. This section needs a little help since there is a piece of the laminate missing.

I got some wood putty and filled the missing spot and glued down the corners of veneer that were coming up. They are clamped right now in the garage till tomorrow.

This is my favorite glue in the whole world! I use it for everything and I have yet to find something it doesn't work on. I buy it from a basket making website and keep several bottles on hand!

Hoping to start sanding in the evenings this week.

After stripping it, I don’t think I will be able to stain it as I had hoped. With all of the puttying and veneer and different colors of wood, it just isn’t restoring as well as I had hoped. I will probably end up going with a white since that is the “safest” color and I don’t want to do anything trendy with it; I want it to be a classic piece that will last in our family for many many more years!

One of those rare days that we HAVE to enjoy every second of! After school, we spend a few hours outside playing with the bubble machine, Avery practiced riding a bike for her Trike-a-thon at school, and Jackson got to take a ride in our Cozy Coup car. I believe it belonged to her grandmother. Not entirely sure, but nonetheless, it is OLD! It was sitting in her garage just rotting away and I convinced her to let me take it home to give it some love and make it beautiful again.

Unfortunately, it has been sitting in my garage now for about 6 months waiting on pretty weather to start!
I actually needed to test it for lead paint since it is so old, but luckily it came back negative! I got out there this weekend and started to poke at it and figure out where to begin. I’ve never done a piece this big or that needed this much work. It is going to be a learning piece but I plan to take it very slow and do it right!
I enlisted the husband to help me remove all of the rusted screws and hardware. I do think that he was enjoying himself! ;)

Next, I (we) removed the door, glass, shelves, and drawer. I decided that the first step would be to start scraping off the peeling veneer from the drawer. I started with a flat head screwdriver just to see how much I could pull off easily.

I was so worried that I would loose the beautiful detailing and designs but it seems to actually be carved into the wood beneath, not just the veneer. YAY!!! Here is a close up of the design on the front

I really didn’t get much further with the screwdriver than you see in the picture above, so then I had to figure out what to do to get the glued on veneer with out destroying the drawer front.

I did some quick Googling and read several sites that said using an iron is the best way. So this is how I did it.

**disclaimer: please do not use this as a tutorial. I am learning as I go so if anything, it can be used to get some tips but I am NOT A PROFESSIONAL

Step 1. get your supplies together.

Iron. One that you are willing to destroy

rag. old one is best

bowl with water

measuring cup with water to fill your iron

hammer

paint scrapper

Step 2. Heat your iron and set it to the hottest setting with steam all of the way up

Step 3. wet your rag. doesn’t need to be dripping but very wet

Step 4. lay the wet rag over the veneer that needs to be removed

Step 5. place the hot iron on the rag for about 1 minute and let it steam and heat up the veneer. You are melting the glue here so some pieces my need longer time and others may not need as much time.

{the girls were pretending I was a dragon blowing fire every time the iron steamed! haha}

Step 6. remove the iron and CAREFULLY remove the rag. IT WILL BE HOT! (duh)

Step 7. acting fast while the wood is still hot, use the paint scrapper and hammer to gently pull the veneer away from the wood. Be careful not to gouge the wood! It should pull away much easier now.

Repeat when it becomes hard to peel again.

I was able to finish the drawer this weekend. The rest of what you see will easily sand off. I also plan to put a thin layer of paint stripper on there to remove the red paint and gunk from the carving lines. I had set the girls up to finger paint in the garage with me to keep them entertained while I worked but sure enough, that got out of hand so I had to stop. These days, I am lucky to get 10 minutes to myself to work on something like this so I was pumped!

Next, One of the sides of the cabinet is peeling too so I will have to tackle that next chance I get. Then I will be on to stripping the paint. I will update when I can!
I realize I probably don’t have any readers, however, I am peeking my head out from my “motherhood abyss” to show off my new family photos by my cousin at Tanya Pabor Photography. Here's my favorites that I plan to make a big wall collage of.
I also updated my banner at the top with a new silhouette using one of these photos. Hope you like them!
He was such a great model and would fall asleep in every pose I put him! I really wish I had more props and backdrops. Maybe one day I can invest in all of that. I have a few more poses in mind that I would like to do with his sisters but for now, I have some great pictures. That is the real point, right?
I woke up that morning feeling some contractions but went about my business since they were not too hard and I had been having contractions off and on for days. At this point I was already 4 cm and 80% effaced. After about 2 hours of timing they were averaging about 3 min apart and lasting about 40 seconds. Still not terribly hard but we decided to go in and at least get checked. This time around I was NOT wanting to deal with false alarms so I was even hesitant to go in at this point. I had one false alarm with Avery and several with Norah so I was not in the mood (being his due date and all) to be sent home. We had a plan to tell the nurse and doctor on call that if I was at least 5 cm I wanted to stay.
Sure enough I was about 5 cm and the nurse told us that since this is my third baby and had a history of short deliveries, she was going to do everything she could to let me have that baby that day. I was on board and they admitted me right away.
I got the epidural a few hours later but my contractions never picked up. I figured I would go ahead and get it before everything got too bad. My water finally broke shortly after that and we thought for sure we would be holding him very shortly. My body had different ideas though! It never wanted to kick into active labor. According to the monitors, my contractions never got harder (with the exception of a few here and there) and they even seemed to be subsiding. I was getting so discouraged! I really didn’t want to have a super fast labor where I couldn’t get the epidural but since I had the pain meds I was really not wanting this to drag on any more! after about 4 hours we started to request some Pitocin. The doctor on call did not want to give it to me just yet so we waited a bit longer.
**side note: I don’t understand why some doctors wont listen to the patient in situations like this. I was obviously not in a critical situation so I could think rationally. I knew that as soon as I got just a tiny bit of Pitocin I would have the baby almost immediately! I had done this twice before. I think I know my body! She wasn’t even my actual doctor! sheesh
Anyways, sure enough as soon as I got the Pitocin, I had the baby an hour and a half later at 6:15 pm. Could have been about 4 hours earlier if they would have just listened to me and Jeff. Oh well!
We had a healthy big boy weighing in at 9lb 6 oz and 21.25” long!! I knew this whole pregnancy he was going to be huge! I could feel every little ounce of him; I was in so much pain at the end!! Here are some pictures from the hospital:
Waiting and waiting…
We are so excited about having a son! The girls are adjusting greatly. Avery is a little momma to him. She is OBSESSED with babies right now. She is a great helper holding his bottles, changing diapers, baths, etc. She loves to sing to him and gives him kisses any chance she can get. Norah is a little jealous but only here and there. Having Avery around to play with helps with that I think. I was feeding him a bottle the other day and she came and sat next to me, took my hand from his bottle and put it on hers and she took her hands off the bottle. She wanted to be fed like a baby too. It was very cute and I knew right there that she is watching every little move I make and does not want to be forgotten about! Of course, she could never be forgotten but I know that I need to make a conscience effort to give her lots of extra love right now.
I can not believe some times that I have been blessed with 3 beautiful children! It is so surreal that I am at this point in my life. I could not be happier and thank God for Jeff and my babies every day! I could not love anyone or anything deeper and stronger than I do right now. My cup overflows!
Back in April, a friend and I went to The Woodlands Art Festival. It was so nice to get out of the house just us girls and do something that we are both very interested in! Thanks Tammy for going with me!!
While we were there I discovered a type of art that I had never seen before I am was instantly intrigued! I couldn’t get any of the artists to tell me all of their secrets (understandably, I guess) but I had to know how they did it!
Let me back up. If you have not heard of Encaustic painting, it is basically painting with wax. The possibilities are endless and you can transfer images to the wax and layer paint and colors and objects all within the wax.I knew instantly that this is exactly what I want to do with my photography.
Here’s some examples:
Aren't these beautiful?! I love art that has depth and dimension and texture to it! I have been doing some Googling on techniques and it definitely looks like something I would fall in love with doing. The only problem? It is not simple to get started in. I do not have any of the tools or the set up for it. I found some classes in Houston that I would just love to take one day. Maybe once the kids are in school…..

I want to make some art for over our new bed and I have always wanted to hang some of my photography so I thought this would be a great combo. Is it just me or are just plain photos (no matter the content) are so boring! Being a photographer, that is probably shocking for me to say, but I have always felt like they are missing something. Well, I think I have found my solution! 2 actually, but one is much similar than the other.
If you are a fan of Pinterest, you have seen tutorials for transferring photos to wood. I was a bit skeptical that it would actually work until this afternoon. I found a piece of scrap wood in our garage that was 5”x6” and chose this picture

at random from my portfolio and printed it on my printer on normal printer paper. I figured I would start with the easiest stuff first. I covered the wood with mod podge and used the back of spoon to smooth out the bubbles in the paper. The tutorials I found say to leave it over night but I got impatient and after about 4 hours I thought I would give it a try. I got my fingers wet and slowly started to rub the paper off with water. Obviously you have to be gentle with this but for whatever reason, the image sticks to the wood and the paper crumbles off! Here is a picture I took after I rubbed the paper off:

** sorry for the lame iphone pics in this post. Like my toes in this picture?? lol did I mention I am being really lazy lately?! ;)

As I was typing this I turned around to look at it and noticed that when it dried it had a white “film” over it. I had not rubbed all of the paper off so I wet it again and scrubbed a little more. You have to be careful because you don’t want to rub too hard or you will rub the image off in spots. I don’t mind the roughness around the edges and depending on the picture, a little distressing could be cool. If it is someone’s face, though, I would not recommend it! lol
I decided to try adding a top layer of mod podge to the top while it was still damp to see if that helps. we shall see…
A few hours later, Here is what it looks like. It’s not perfect so I need to do some playing around with different materials, but I think I could really make some cool artwork!
Ive been going through another blogging slump lately. I have plenty I could talk about but finding the motivation sometimes is the hardest part. Why? I have no idea. Hormones probably. I have not had much motivation to do anything. We decided to get real bedroom furniture so that has taken up a lot of my mental capacity. It’s amazing how much energy it takes to to just simple tasks when your 9 months pregnant and chasing 2 toddlers. I think I can say good bye to energy for at least the next year.
I am 2 days from my due date and at the end of my rope. As of 3 days ago I was already 4 cm and have been having lots of contractions, just not regular enough to time, so I am praying something happens very soon. This boy is getting big (and momma is getting HUGE) so I can’t take it much longer!
Ok, done complaining….
I was able to get one quick maternity picture done this time around. I really was not worried about doing a whole session with someone since I really only want a belly picture for a future project I have in mind. Thanks to my sister who came over to help, I was able to set the camera up and guide her through shooting one for me. I think it turned out pretty cute!
That’s it. Sometimes the simplest chores are the hardest to accomplish around here!
The girls have always LOVED playing in laundry baskets and ask to get them out and for me to push them around the house in them. Want a serious work out? put two kids (about 55 lbs total) in a laundry basket and push them around a 3200 sq ft house for 30 min! Carpet gives lots of traction so its even harder on the butt and thighs lol. Anyways, I have several pictures on my phone of them playing in the baskets but nothing a photographer can love.
Yesterday was just one of those days when I really could care less if the laundry got folded and put away right away. Hormones are surging with Jackson due any day and I felt really nauseous and weak. So, I have to pick my battles. With toddlers “help” folding clothes, it doesn’t really happen that efficiently anyways. I decided to just sit back and let them fold the clothes while I got the camera out. Having kids is great practice! Here are the pictures. They turned out so much cuter than I predicted!

Found some wood plaques, painted them green (if you know me, green is pretty much my go-to color (besides white). Its my favorite and I love how lively and pretty it is! ) and added picture hangers to the back. I wanted to incorporate clothes pins since they were going in the laundry room, so I used them to hold the pictures. Got my favorite 8 printed at Walgreens and that’s it! I really wanted to have a plaque that said something like “Laundry Day” on it but it didn’t work out at this moment so I may have to add that later.
Hope you like it! I sure do!!
I tell my sister all of the time that she needs to be the one with a blog since she does stuff like this all of the time, but she isnt really into the whole “blogging” thing. In fact, she doesn’t even read mine or friends unless I ask her to lol.
She was here last week and we decided to clean out my crayon box of all of the old broken crayons and melt them to make new ones. She had these silicone molds that were in shapes of vehicles (cars, boats, airplanes) so we thought it would be the best thing to use.
It’s really pretty self explanatory, but we simply took all of the crayon bits and pieces and filled the mold.
Voila! new crayons that the kids LOVED! A quick, easy, “kid tested, mother approved” kind of craft that didn’t cost anything, cleaned something up, and made the kids very happy. Win-win for sure!
My sister remembers doing this as a kid using egg shells. I don’t remember this, but she said our dad would hollow out an egg (like making confetti eggs) and fill them with the melted crayons and then when it cooled, peel the shell off. Like I said, not a new concept, just a different way to do it. Oldy but goody craft, guess you could say.

As most of you know, I already have several hobbies but every single one of them limit me to being in my craft room or sitting in front of my sewing machine, or painting something in the garage. I really wanted to find something that I could do while watching TV at night or able to bring with me on trips. I can not sit still long enough to watch a single movie; I feel like it is a waste of time when I could be doing something productive. My husband hates this about me since he wants to watch movies all of the time and it used to drive my college room mate crazy since she was a big movie buff too. Sorry guys! I think I have found a cure, though!
When a friend mentioned that she enjoyed knitting I had to stop her mid sentence and was like, “wait, what?! you knit?!” I bought several “teach yourself to knit” books and some starter kits but could never figure it out myself. I am such a visual learner that I needed to watch someone do it and walk me through it. She was excited to teach me so we spent a whole Sunday together knitting and learning. I fell in love! It’s only been a week now but I know that this is going to be a long term relationship lol.
I have made several little “swatches” of different styles of stitches that I have learned. (now that she showed me the basics, I can understand a bit better what the books are talking about) Avery loves my sample swatches and seems to run off with them for her doll house. Here’s 2 that I made, though.
If you are a knitter you are probably laughing at how excited I am about such simple beginner things, but I am so proud of myself!

I even watched a YouTube video on how to make a Center Pull ball of yarn.

*Sorry for the poor iPhone pics but I was too lazy to get up and get my camera while working on these.
My first real project will be a head band for the girls. Avery was sitting with me while looking at patterns online and she really liked this one and insisted she NEEDED a pink headband. Why not? lol I told her I needed some more practice but I would make it for her very soon.
I hated them so much I really just wanted to toss them out but I couldn’t get myself to do that with all my childhood pictures in them! I had a kind of “light bulb” moment the other day and decided that they needed to be wrapped in fabric. GENIUS ! Why have I not thought of this before?! Here’s the before/after:

So, Here’s how I did it.
I first went through and decided if there was anything I could get rid of. It’s amazing how organized you can get just by purging!! I threw out my old scrapbooks from High School and college. I know, I might be crazy. I put a lot of time and energy into those, but they were falling apart and getting junky and I have digital copies of those photos so it wasn’t too hard to part with them. Plus, there were lots of pages of me with ex boyfriends so who wants to look at those?! lol I also threw out a lot of prints from elementary/junior high/high school that I just didn’t care to keep.
I was able to narrow it down it the 4 binders I had and kept the 3 scrapbooks of stuff from my childhood. Luckily, I had gone through those and condensed that stuff several years ago. I found a binder laying around the house that I put some other photo prints into and replaced the fabric wrapped one that I had. Remember when this was popular?

I vividly remember making this in Girls Scouts in elementary school. yikes! Needless to say I threw it out and replaced it with another binder.

All in all I ended up with 5 binders full of childhood prints from my birth to my wedding.

I went to Hobby Lobby and got some thick canvas material. I originally wanted Linen but it wasn’t thick enough to cover the patterns of the old binders.

I cut strips of the fabric just about an inch wider that the width and length of the binder

I then coated the outside with spray adhesive, flipped it over and laid it on the fabric

I did the binding first. I cut a tab out of the fabric and glued it down first using rubber cement.

P.S. Clothes pins work great for this and I feel like a genius for thinking of this! lol

I then went around to each edge and glued the fabric down with the spray adhesive, clipping it until it dried. The spray is nice because it dries really fast but you have to be ready to glue and try not to make a mistake! I messed up on one binder and was able to pull it off so there is some give to it, but if you have the super permanent kind, it is not as forgiving!!

There you have it. Pretty, clean line and simplified binders that don’t look like ancient photo albums.
The best part is that this project only cost me about $10 for the fabric! (would have been cheaper but the lady at hobby lobby fought with me over the fabric being on sale. I know it was 30% off but sometimes a few bucks just isnt worth the argument)

She has been staying with us for a while now with their transition to move back to Houston, so we have had a house full of toddlers. We decided today that it would be fun to make our own play dough. I ran out of the store bought stuff since they let it sit out a few days ago and it all dried up. That stuff was never that great anyways, since it dries out fast and crumbles all over the place.
She found this recipe a while back and tested it out and really liked it, so that is what we used.
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
1 Tablespoon oil
1 cup water
food coloring

Mix the first 5 ingredients in a sauce pan and whisk together.

Add food color of your choice and enough to make it as dark as you want.

Cook over medium low heat stirring continuously with a metal spoon until it just starts to come together into a dough ball.
Immediately take it out of the pot and onto a plate. At this point the dough should still be pretty sticky but still able to be picked up into a ball. knead the dough until it forms a smooth ball with the consistency of normal play dough.

Put it into a tupperware with the lid on to cool. I actually put the dough into a tupperware and left the lid off, thinking that the condensation would be bad and needed to cool without the lid, but Emily said that if you leave the lid off it will dry your dough out. You want to keep all of the moisture with in the container!
After it cools, it’s time to play! We made pink and blue (2 batches) but you can obviously do as much as you want and as many colors as you want. I am out of cream of tartar so once I can get some more, I will be making lots of other colors!
The best parts of this play dough is that it doesn’t dry out fast, doesn’t crumble, and the colors do not rub off on their hands!
PS. I love that my breakfast table is perfect for things like this! I don’t have to be paranoid the whole time about them scratching it up and making messes (to a certain extent, of course). I look forward to the day it can be refinished to be beautiful again, but for now, it gets lots of toddler “love” :)

I was outside with the kids when I spotted a beautiful piece of furniture sitting in her garage. (Excuse the horrible pics from my phone. They don't do it justice).

I asked her about it and she said it was her grandmother's, so my great great grandmothers. She also said that no one wants it and it has been sitting there for years. I am appalled that this is just sitting outside rotting when it has so much potential! My mom checked with my aunt and she said they both didn't mind if I took it so hopefully I can find a way to get it home one day. Yippee!! I am normally not an antique person but I love family pieces that have a personal history. I really hope I can give it some love and make it beautiful again! Here's a few (really bad) close up shots of the details.

I want to do some research on what year this was possibly made. Had to of been the late 1800s!
Can't wait to do this refinish job!Suzie Home-Makerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03280912526346377020noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6770521809753863401.post-14140845570636623122013-04-16T12:35:00.001-07:002013-04-18T20:00:07.648-07:00Norah’s Toddler Room RevealI am finally finished!!
Her grey and pink room turned out very pretty and simple and I think it is something that she can easily grow up with.
I am so incredibly happy with the way the bedding turned out. I made it into more of a duvet cover than a quilt, but I think it is beautiful and I wish it was mine! lol I included some close ups of the rosettes I gave the tutorial on. Unfortunately I have to keep it turned down since it is too heavy for her right now, so I have a think grey blanket on there. At least that gets to show the pretty back fabric.
The bedrails kind of throw off my groove, but they are too hard to take on and off the bed, so that’s just the way it is!
The bed frame that I found started out as a grey distressed finish but there was just something “off” about it and there was just too much grey so everything was blending together. I needed it to pop like my original plan of the iron bed would have. So, I got brave and painted it black. I know some people may think I am crazy for doing that but I really like it and it makes the bedding pop and gives some contrast against the grey walls and furniture.
The walls are kind of a blue, green, grey color. very soft and pretty.
I got the white plaster pieces from Target. I love the texture and they give a little femininity without being too “girly”
Her name block was cut out by my father in law when she was born and I just happened to paint it pink and white at the time. Another one of those times when a past project happens to work out later.
I have had the pink lamp since Avery’s first nursery. Another perfect reused piece!
The shelves were in the room already, I just moved them. The long one is holding my collection of music boxes from when I was younger. The small one has a few night time books and has some piece glass knobs that I use to hang her bath time hooded towel on. (she LOVES that towel!)
Her favorite teddy bear and blankey are on the bed.
I got a small iron bird cage at Hobby Lobby (intending to match the iron bed, but I think it still goes). I found the small ceramic bird there, too for $4 and spray painted it pink to match.
She has her baptism certificate hanging up with a cross that was given to her at her baptism that I have been meaning to hang since she got baptized as a baby.
The “boys have cooties” sign was given to me at my first baby shower and I think it is adorable and hilarious. I hope she remembers that! ;)
The jewelry box was given to her by her daddy when she was born. He got Avery one too so I guess he needs to work on filling them up now! lol
The classic Pooh and Piglet are just some stuffed animals that we have had that I thought were sweet in there.
I found the curtains at JCPenney for only $30! I love that the shape in them mimics the shape of the night stand legs but part of me thinks pink curtains would have been better. hmmm too late now, not changing them. The rod was the one I had hanging in there already and since I didn’t want to throw out a good rod I just spray painted it to a black color.
The pink oval mirror I found at a furniture resale store for only $45! It had a gold frame so all it needed was some pink spray paint and hangers on the back.
Hope you like it!
I'm laying in bed with both girls at my grandmothers house; I had hoped to play on my blog and photoshop after they went to sleep, but new surroundings for little ones can be scary so bedtime is not so easy. Wouldn't trade it for a corporate job or the world!
I want to reveal Norah's room; I have a new art style obsession I am dying to learn how to do; talk grocery budget/shopping tips and techniques. Lots of stuff on my mind and future projects on my list.
Be back when life slows down a bit! :)

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
Suzie Home-Makerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03280912526346377020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6770521809753863401.post-39610984690135140812013-04-09T19:54:00.001-07:002013-04-16T12:33:25.633-07:00Linen Closet: before and afterNot a lot of projects going on around here but we have been very busy. Between being out of town and having visitors, I haven't gotten any fun projects done but one thing's for sure, nesting is in full gear! I have about 7ish weeks left (I lost count at the moment) so I am READY to be done and hold my baby.
Have I mentioned I tend to get obsessed when I start a project? It drives Jeff crazy lol. I started going through Jackson's closet to start organizing it which led to going through baby blankets, which led to going through our blanket chests, which then led to our hall linen closet. Help me!
Just for fun, and because I wanted to post something tonight, here are the linen closet before and after pictures:
Believe it or not, I have yet to take newborn pictures of a boy! My photography "business" (I put that in quotes because it is so part time that I can't claim it as a true business just yet) is picking up but still not very busy. Something that I hope to keep doing but I don't plan to get real busy with until all my kids are in school.
Anyways, I am super excited about these items I ordered on etsy. SLOWLY but surely I would like to beef up my props and backdrops as jobs come in.
